Bus plunges into ravine in Bataan; 1 dead
MANILA, Philippines — A woman died and 25 others were injured when a passenger bus plunged into a 20-foot ravine in Orani, Bataan yesterday.
The fatality, who was not identified pending notification of her family members, was among the 26 of the 48 passengers brought to the Orani District Hospital for treatment.
Orani police chief Maj. Larry Valencia said the victims, all teachers from various schools in Quezon City, had just attended a seminar at the Sinagtala Resort when the accident occurred in Barangay Tala at around 11:45 a.m.
Initial investigation showed the brakes malfunctioned.
The bus driver and the conductor were taken to the police station for investigation.
The Quezon City government said it is ready to provide support for the victims.
Meanwhile, in Ilocos Sur, police said bicycle rider Lexter Villa, 23, died when his bike collided with a motorcycle in Barangay Guimod Norte in San Juan. – Janvic Mateo, Bebot Sison Jr., Artemio Dumlao
