Liquor ban, road closures for Bar exams

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Manila has imposed a liquor ban and road closures during the conduct of this year’s Bar exams on Nov. 9, 13, 16 and 20.

Liquor will be prohibited within a 500-meter radius of San Beda University (SBU) and De La Salle University (DLSU), where law graduates are scheduled to take the Bar exams, from midnight on the day before each examination and up to 10 p.m. on the date itself.

Ambulant vendors, loud sound systems such as karaoke, videoke and speakers as well as persons and groups generating loud noises will also be banned in these areas from Nov. 8 to 10, 12 to 14, 15 to 17 and 19 to 21.

The city government will also close certain roads near the two universities.

In the vicinity of SBU, Mendiola street will be closed from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. while 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th streets will be closed the entire day. One lane of Concepcion Aguila street will be accessible only to residents.

At DLSU, Taft Avenue’s northbound lane will be sealed off from 2 a.m. to 8 am and from 4 p.m. to 6 pm, while the southbound lane will be closed from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Supreme Court said 9,916 law graduates are expected to take the Bar examinations this year.
