Abu Sayyaf sub-leader wounded in Sulu clash captured
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Government troopers captured an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader who was wounded in an encounter in Sulu on Monday.
Soldiers belonging to the 41st Infantry Battalion and Barangay Peace Action Team were conducting routine security patrol when they encountered the bandits in Barangay Biid in Parang town, according to Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, Joint Task Force Sulu commander.
Brig. Gen. Eugene Boquio, 1101st Brigade commander, said Christoper Usam was caught while soldiers were conducting clearing operations.
Usam was brought to a military hospital at Camp Gen. Teodulfo Bautista and then transferred to the Sanitarium Hospital in Jolo, where he underwent surgery.
