5 die in Ilocos vehicular mishap

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Five persons died in a vehicular accident in Piddig, Ilocos Norte on Sunday night.

Eduardo Burgos together with his children LJ, 16, and Liam, 8, and Tranquilino Burgos and his wife Zenaida were on their way home in Barangay 20, Sarrat when their tricycle collided with a car in Barangay Ab-abut.

The victims reportedly came from a wake in nearby Barangay Calambeg town.

Eduardo, Tranquilino and Zenaida died at the scene while LJ and Liam were declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Probers have yet to identify the driver of the car.

Meanwhile, in Cavite, a woman and a 10-year-old boy died while three others were injured when their house collapsed and fell into a river in Imus on Sunday afternoon.

The remains of Catherine Reyes, 35, and Carl Yukie Hiro Caayupan, 10, were recovered at around 5:40 p.m., according to Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite police director.

Josephine Reyes, 55; Shakira Shanti and Carl Yuri Caayupan, both 12 years old, were brought to the nearest hospital for treatment of injuries.

The incident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. along Col. Topacio street in Barangay Poblacion 4A.

City police chief Lt. Col. Junar Alamo said the foundation of the house weakened due to continuous rain.
