Norwegian caught with P56 million shabu at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines — A Norwegian woman was arrested for allegedly smuggling P56 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu into the country through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City at past midnight yesterday.
Rose Alex Moi, 59, was collared by operatives of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group at around 12:30 a.m.
Authorities conducted a surveillance in response to a tip that a woman from Dubai will arrive in the country with prohibited narcotics.
Moi, who hails from Novik in Norway, was placed under government custody when around 8.34 kilos of shabu valued at P56.71 million were found in her luggage.
The foreigner, a nurse by profession, is being held on charges of violating provisions of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Meanwhile, police seized around 4.8 grams of shabu with a street value of P32,640 in Taguig City on Thursday.
The illegal drugs were confiscated during a raid on the house of drug suspect Albert Reyes, 26, in Barangay San Miguel at around 1 a.m., according to Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft.
Apart from illegal drugs, Reyes also yielded a .38 caliber handgun with three bullets.
He is facing charges for possession of dangerous drugs and illegal possession of a firearm. - Rudy Santos
