Mactan-Cebu airport resumes full operations

MANILA, Philippines — The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) resumed full operations yesterday, four days after a South Korean aircraft overshot the runway.

The MCIA Authority (MCIAA) had earlier announced limited 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. flights until Nov. 7 to pave the way for the removal of the disabled plane.

With the lifting of the sunrise to sunset flight schedules, the MCIAA advised passengers to coordinate with their respective airlines on the status of their flights.

As of yesterday morning, Flights DG 6895, 6896, 6690 and 6691 operated by Cebu Pacific’s regional brand Cebgo were canceled due to inclement weather.

MCIAA general manager Julius Neri Jr. said it remains uncertain when the Korean Air plane will be removed from the vicinity of the runway.

He said it has yet to be determined how to remove the damaged plane.

Neri said he hopes the plane would be extracted within a week or two to ensure the uninterrupted operations of the airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, for its part, vowed to complete the removal of the disabled Airbus A330 as soon as possible.
