MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has moved up to Dec. 17 the plebiscite to ratify the conversion of Baliwag into a component city.

In a five-page resolution promulgated on Oct. 12 and released yesterday, the Comelec said the plebiscite would be held a month earlier than its original schedule of Jan. 14, 2023 following the postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The Comelec said the information and campaign period or the holding of barangay assemblies, fora and similar activities will now be held from Nov. 17 to Dec. 15.

The plebiscite period is from Nov. 17 to Dec. 24, during which a gun ban will also be enforced.

The plebiscite, to be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be followed by the counting of votes, convening of the plebiscite board of canvassers, canvassing of votes and proclamation of the results.
