MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Autority (MMDA) will deploy 1,500 personnel for this year’s Undas week, an official said yesterday.

In a statement, MMDA Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said personnel from the Traffic Discipline Office, Road Emergency Group, Metro Parkways Clearing Group and Task Force Special Operations, among others, will be deployed in key locations in Metro Manila upon the activation of “Oplan Undas 2022” from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2.

“The MMDA is all set to undertake measures on traffic management, cleanup operations, road emergency and public assistance and clearing of road obstructions in preparation for Undas,” Dimayuga said.

Traffic personnel will be deployed along major roads leading to cemeteries and transportation hubs, aside from bus terminals in Metro Manila.

The will also focus on entry and exit points to and from the region.

Yesterday, Dimayuga and other MMDA officials inspected several bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City.

He insisted that provincial buses are only allowed to utilize the designated back door exits to avoid heavy traffic along EDSA.

“The agency is providing traffic assistance to ensure faster turnaround of buses,” he said.

Number coding suspended

The MMDA also announced that the number coding scheme will be suspended on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, both special non-working holidays.

The Road Emergency Group will set up public assistance centers with tents and ambulances to provide public assistance and rescue services at Metro Manila’s five major cemeteries, including Manila North Cemetery, South Cemetery, Loyola Memorial Park, Bagbag Public Cemetery and San Juan Public Cemetery, Dimayuga said.

Road clearing units will remove all obstructions on major roads leading to cemeteries while the Metro Parkways Clearing Group will maintain the cleanliness in the vicinity of cemeteries and memorial parks.
