AFP names new Metro Manila commander

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines appointed yesterday Col. Alexei Musñgi as the AFP’s commander of the Joint Task Force National Capital Region (JTF-NCR).

Musñgi replaced Brig. Gen. Marceliano Teofilo, who was designated chief of the AFP Intelligence Service in July.

Musñgi assumed the post during a change of command ceremony led by AFP chief Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro at Camp Aguinaldo.

Bacarro emphasized the importance of the JTF-NCR and its commander to the overall stability and development of the country.

“Taking on this immense responsibility entails expertise in security operations, intelligence and inter-agency collaboration to address multi-faceted security concerns and promptly respond to emergencies,” he said.

“Musñgi will be able to steer the JTF-NCR in addressing the complexities of Metro Manila’s security environment,” Bacarro added.
