MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Davao del Sur yesterday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the quake struck six kilometers south of Matanao town at around 4:05 p.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Davao City and General Santos City.
Instrumental Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, was reported in Kidapawan City, Koronadal City and Norala in South Cotabato.
Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Alabel, Sarangani; Tampakan, Tantangan and Tupi in South Cotabato; General Santos City, South Cotabato and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were expected from the quake.
