BOC files 75 cases vs smugglers, hoarders
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs has filed at least 75 cases this year in relation to the government’s crackdown on smuggling and hoarding amid the continued rise in the prices of goods, a BOC official said yesterday.
In an interview aired over GMA News, BOC spokesman Arnaldo dela Torre Jr. said the charges were filed before the Department of Justice from January to Oct. 13.
The BOC launched a crackdown on smuggling and hoarding after President Marcos called on the agency to inspect warehouses across the country that are believed to be storing and hoarding sugar in an attempt to manipulate market prices.
Dela Torre said they are continuously in coordination with concerned government offices, particularly the Department of Agriculture and its attached agencies, in taking down smugglers of agricultural products.
