MANILA, Philippines — Up to 204 members of alleged left-leaning organizations have withdrawn their support for the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said yesterday said the 204 renounced their membership with the Alyansang Manggagawang Bukid ng Gitnang Luzon, Milisyang Bayan, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap and United Luisita Workers Union at Camp Olivas in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The former members of the cause-oriented groups also pledged their support to the government.

“The unceasing local peace engagement efforts of the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government), being carried out by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army that include information dissemination and situational interview, made them aware of the government’s programs and gave them the opportunity to change their lives and make amends for the mistakes they have committed due to the deception of the CPP-NPA-NDF,” Azurin said in a statement.

He lauded the Central Luzon police led by Brig. Gen. Cesar Pasiwen for its efforts to end local armed conflict in the country in coordination with other government agencies.

“Let us continue a collective and whole-of-nation approach against communist terrorists for the full realization of an inclusive and sustainable peace and unity,” Azurin said.
