Bulacan mayor dies in road mishap
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — The mayor of Marilao town in Bulacan died while his driver and secretary were injured when their vehicle crashed into an electric post in Mabalacat, Pampanga on Sunday afternoon.
Mayor Ricardo Silvestre was rushed to the Medical City located at the Clark Freeport Zone where he died while being treated, according to Col. Alvin Ruby Consolacion, Pampanga police director.
Silvestre’s daughter Jackie-Lou told journalists that her father was declared dead at 7:09 p.m. by attending physician Arvin Samson.
His secretary Karen Bonifacio and driver Rodel Alcantara were taken to the Angeles University Foundation Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to a report received by Brig. Gen. Cezar Pasiwen, Central Luzon police director.
Investigation showed the victims were traveling along Prince Balagtas Avenue in a Toyota Land Cruiser at past 5:30 p.m. when Alcantara lost control of the wheel.
Silvestre was serving his second term as mayor of Marilao. He was 65 years old.
