MANILA, Philippines — Militant group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) sought the release of two labor organizers who were apprehended by police yesterday after attending a court hearing in Quezon City.

The group condemned the arrest of Kara Taggaoa of KMU International and Larry Valbuena, president of a transport group, on charges of direct assault.

Taggaoa and Valbuena were allegedly involved in the riot that took place at the Commission on Human Rights compound in Barangay UP Campus on July 11, 2020.

They were arrested following their arraignment for a separate robbery complaint.

The warrant for their arrest issued by Judge Ludmila de Pio Lim was served only when they were on their way to the Quezon City Police District headquarters at Camp Karingal, the KMU said.
