Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Students in Manila and tricycle drivers in Valenzuela City have received financial assistance from their respective local governments.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna led the distribution of educational assistance worth P4,875,000 at the Dakota covered court in Malate on Wednesday.

Ma. Asuncion Fugoso, head of the Manila Department of Social Welfare, said 975 students from Districts 1, 2, 4, 5 and Baseco received P5,000 each.

In her message to the students and their parents, Lacuna urged the learners to “study well.”

In Valenzuela, the city government has started the distribution of one-time fuel subsidy of P500 to 7,424 qualified tricycle drivers and operators.

Mayor Wes Gatchalian said the cash subsidy was part of the projects launched by the city government during his first 100 days in office.

Gatchalian said his administration recognized the plight of the transport sector, which helped in reviving the local economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
