Man held for bomb joke

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested yesterday for allegedly cracking a bomb joke at a construction site in Quezon City yesterday.

The incident occurred at a construction project at the corner of EDSA and Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa at around 7:25 a.m.

Police said Jem Joseph Ortilano, 21, lined up with construction workers at the entrance gate.

While security guards were frisking Ortilano and inspecting his bag, he allegedly shouted that it contained a grenade.

This prompted security guards to thoroughly search Villanueva’s bag.

It turned out that he was not carrying an explosive.

Villanueva was turned over to the Project 6 police station 15.

He is facing charges for uttering a bomb threat in violation of Presidential Decree 1727.

Meanwhile, a grenade was found in a sack of garbage in Barangay Sto. Monica yesterday.

A garbage collector found the explosive stashed in a sack along Joshua street.

The grenade was turned over to the police for safekeeping.
