BI to deport 372 foreigners
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport 372 foreign citizens, mostly Chinese, for violating immigration laws, an official announced yesterday.
Of the number of deportees, 89 percent or 331 are Chinese, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
“Their deportation papers have been completed. We are just waiting for clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation,” he said. “We need to make sure that they are not facing any criminal cases here.”
The deportees were recently arrested by BI personnel in separate operations in Pasig City and Clark in Pampanga.
Meanwhile, two Africans were intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for allegedly presenting fake Canadian passports on Sept. 25.
BI officers at the NAIA arrested Adraman Issa Mariam and Halime Abba Souleymane.
Tansingco ordered the inclusion of the Africans in the immigration blacklist to prevent them from entering the Philippines.
