MANILA, Philippines — A man died and 10 were injured after scaffolding collapsed at a construction site in Quezon City yesterday.
The victims are all construction workers at a housing project along Sto. Cristo street in Barangay Balingasa.
Police investigators said the victims were working at the site when the scaffolding gave way at around 9 a.m.
The victims were rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment, but one of them was pronounced dead on arrival.
Probers identified the fatality as Francis Anzures, 45, a resident of Barangay Baesa.
Jerick Medino, 20; Renato Gallo, 49; Mark Dave Asis, 21; Reynante Mandak, 50; Junrey Acoymo, 38; Jayson Rebalga, 27; Jerald Silvio, 20; Jorie Modesto, 40; Emmil Jay Medino, 25; and Rainwick Gallo, 39, were treated for minor injuries.
Probe underway
The Quezon City government has initiated an investigation into the incident.
“The city architect and infrastructure committee of the city government have extensively inspected the site and its surroundings,” the city government said in a statement.
“A thorough investigation is underway to determine if there were lapses in the observance of standard construction procedures, and to recommend measures to ensure that such untoward incidents will not happen again in the future,” it added.
