MANILA, Philippines — A kindergarten and elementary school operating inside the Philippine Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig announced its closure yesterday.
The Philippine Army Officers’ Ladies Foundation School (PAOLFS) along Bayani Road said it ceased operation after losing the property it has been using for more than five decades.
The school officially closed on Aug. 22, based on a notice published in The STAR yesterday.
Founded in 1966, the school administration said it had been in operation for 56 years.
The 25-year lease contract between the Philippine Army and PAOLFS as well as a memorandum of agreement between the Army and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) expired on Aug. 22.
“Since 2016, the Board of Trustees has exerted effort to renew or at least extend the lease agreement, but PVAO has committed to a bigger project,” the PAOLFS said.
The Army and PVAO have yet to issue a statement on the matter.
“We tried to keep the school afloat in the past two years,” the PAOLFS said. “Faced with the challenges during the pandemic and the fact that we don’t have a physical structure where we could conduct classes, the board opted to close the school.”
