MANILA, Philippines — The new chief of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion (IB) based in Claveria, Misamis Oriental has assumed the post.
Lt. Col. Christian Uy replaced Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy following a turnover ceremony led by 4th Infantry Division (ID) commander Maj. Gen. Wilbur Mamawag.
Uy vowed to sustain the gains of Canatoy, according to 1st Lt. Vincent Mark Maddul, civil-military operations officer of the 58IB.
Mamawag commended Canatoy, whose leadership he said resulted in the unit’s numerous accomplishments.
“I congratulate you for fitting the definition of a true leader. For more than two years, he showed that he is not just a peace and order partner, but a true leader of the Dimalulupig Troopers,” Mamawag said of Canatoy.
He expressed confidence that Uy could achieve and surpass the success attained by his predecessor.
“I am looking forward to hearing and reading about the successes and accomplishments of the 58IB under your baton. I am confident in your skills and abilities,” Mamawag said.
