MANILA, Philippines — As part of its commitment to help students with their education, the Pasig City government has purchased 720,000 books for young learners.
Mayor Vico Sotto said yesterday they procured the books for public schools in the city.
“Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn. All other subjects can be learned by a child who reads well,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
Sotto did not mention how much the local government spent for the books. He urged people to instill a love for reading in the younger generation.
The city council recently passed a resolution for a supplemental special education fund budget worth P444 million for the additional needs of schools in Pasig.
Sotto said the city government will give more benefits to teachers and construct more schools.
