2 dead in Iloilo road mishap

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Two motorcycle riders died when their vehicles were hit by a wing van in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo on Wednesday.

Rafael Balquin and Dennie Morera, both 18 years old and residents of Barangay San Fernando, were driving their  motorcycles when the accident occurred in Sitio Lomboy in  Barangay San Juan.

The van driver, Ronald Mamon, told police he lost control of the vehicle when the brakes malfunctioned while driving down a curved portion of the road.

Mamon was pinned behind the steering wheel when the van rammed a tree after it collided with the motorcycles.

Balquin and Morera died while being treated at the Governor Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital, where Mamon was also confined.
