2 dead in Forbes Park shooting
MANILA, Philippines — Tension gripped residents of a posh subdivision in Makati after a security guard of Pharmally executive Rose Nono Lin went on a shooting rampage, leaving two protection agents dead on Monday night.
The shooting occurred at the house of Lin, treasurer and incorporator of Pharmally, at 14 Narra street, South Forbes Park Village.
The house is reportedly being rented by Lin, who lost in her congressional bid in the last elections.
Lin’s house is just across the residence of Michael Yang on 19 Narra street. Yang, who served as economic adviser of former president Rodrigo Duterte, was among those implicated in the Pharmally scam involving over P8 billion worth of COVID-19 supplies.
Makati police chief Col. Edward Cutiyog said they have launched a manhunt for Julius Cortez, 43.
Initial investigation showed that the drunk Cortez arrived at the house and asked the victims, Jay Ar Tomenio and Eugene Sitjar, for his food.
When Cortez could not find his food, a housekeeper told investigators that the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the victims.
Sitjar died instantly from a gunshot to the head. Tomenio succumbed to a gunshot to his waist.
Cortez fled on foot after the incident, witnesses said.
Cutiyog said the victims were working as protection agents, but he did not disclose the name of their employer.
Probers said they recovered three fired bullets, two bullet casings and a metal jacked from a 9mm pistol at the scene.
The Philippine National Police deployed a Special Weapons and Tactics team following the incident.
