MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina River reached the second alarm on Sunday evening amid the continued downpour brought by Super Typhoon Karding.

The Marikina City public information office said the river’s water level reached 16 meters above sea level at around 10:08 p.m.

This prompted a second alarm warning from the city government, which means residents near the river should prepare for possible evacuation.

Based on the advisory, all eight floodgates are now open.

The water alert level would be raised to level 3 once it reaches 18 meters above sea level. This critical level will call for immediate evacuation of affected areas.

As of 11:30 p.m., the river’s water level reached 17.5 meters above sea level.
