MMDA, DOTr vow to improve EDSA Busway
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have vowed to improve the EDSA Busway system and some of its vital features.
Last Friday, MMDA Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) executive director Robert Peig inspected the EDSA Busway station at Monumento in Caloocan City.
The LTFRB is under the DOTr.
Dimayuga and Peig saw long lines of commuters – from the sidewalks along EDSA to the footbridge going to the EDSA Busway station – waiting to get on buses, as well as a long line of buses.
After witnessing the situation, Dimayuga said the MMDA would install portalets or portable toilet rooms and tents, as well as deploy traffic enforcers during rush hours.
He added that the agency would also look into widening the walkway for commuters.
Meanwhile, the DOTr said it has installed bus timers at 13 stations of the EDSA Busway, including Monumento, which will signal each bus to stay at terminals for 30 seconds to fetch and drop off passengers before moving.
