COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Marijuana plants with an estimated market value of P10 million were uprooted and torched by a joint team of the police and the military in Maguing, Lanao del Sur on Saturday.
The team destroyed no fewer than 50 million marijuana plants during a raid in Barangay Batobato, according to Col. Jibin Bongcayao, Lanao del Sur police director.
No one was arrested during the raid as the men guarding the plantation fled upon seeing the approaching police and military officers.
The raid and destruction of marijuana plants in Barangay Batobato was the fifth in Maguing town since Monday.
Earlier, more than P30 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed in separate police and military operations in the villages of Dilimbayan and Pindulonan.
Bongcayao said the raid was carried out based on information supplied by civilian tipsters.
