Bulatlat asks court to junk Esperon’s plea

MANILA, Philippines — Alternative news organization bulatlat.com has asked a Quezon City court to dismiss former national security adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr.’s bid to overturn its earlier ruling, which ordered the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to unblock the news website.

The Alipato Media Center Inc., owner of bulatlat.com, urged the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 306 to junk Esperon’s request for lack of merit, adding that “no new arguments or supervening events” were raised.

The court has granted Bulatlat’s appeal for a preliminary injunction, which stopped the NTC from blocking its website.

Bulatlat lauded the court’s ruling, saying the NTC and Esperon violated the news organization’s right to free speech and press freedom.
