MALOLOS, Philippines — Today is a special non-working holiday in Bulacan in observance of the 124th anniversary of the Malolos Congress.
Proclamation No. 40 signed by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez on Aug. 17 declared the holiday, saying ”it is but fitting and proper that the people of the province be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government.”
Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando issued a memorandum encouraging local government units, public and private schools and department heads of the provincial government to plan activities to commemorate the anniversary of the Malolos Congress.
Vice President Sara Duterte will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Barasoain Church.
The Malolos Congress was the legislative body of the revolutionary government, which drafted the country’s first Constitution.
