PNP has ‘substantial’ information on forged BI chief appointment
MANILA, Philippines — Investigators of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have obtained “substantial” information in connection with the allegedly forged documents on the appointment of lawyer Abraham Espejo Jr. as commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration.
“May substantial lead and information tayong nakuha,” PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said yesterday.
Fajardo, however, said it would be better to let the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) finish its probe on Espejo’s bogus appointment papers.
Police also clarified that the five people whom the CIDG invited for questioning are not being considered as suspects.
Fajardo said they were invited as they could give information leading to the identity of the source of the forged documents.
“Hindi po sila itinuturing na suspects or persons of interest,” she said.
