Van hits pedestrians; 5 hurt

MANILA, Philippines — Five students were injured when they were sideswiped by a van driven by a policeman in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite yesterday.

The three girls and two boys, aged 15 to 18, were walking along Congressional Road in Barangay Poblacion 4 when they were hit by a Nissan Urvan at around 5:45 p.m., municipal police chief Lt. Col. Richard Corpus said in a report.

The victims were taken to the Carsigma Hospital for treatment.

S/Sgt. Anderson Videna, who was driving the vehicle,  tested positive for alcohol when his breath was analyzed using a breathe analyzer.

He was disarmed of his service firearm and placed under police custody.

Police said charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries, violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act as well as grave misconduct would be filed against Videna tomorrow.– Ed Amoroso
