Soldier killed in Nueva Ecija clash with Reds
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A soldier was killed while another was wounded in an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Rio Chico in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija on Thursday.
The fatality was identified as Pvt. Jaylord Hipolito. Pfc. Francis Lictawa was wounded and airlifted to the Fort Magsaysay Station Hospital for treatment.
Lt. Col. Enrico Gil Ileto, 84th Infantry Battalion commander, said government troopers were responding to reports of harassment of villagers in the area when the clash occurred.
In Negros Occidental, a man claiming to be an NPA rebel shot dead a force multiplier of the police in Purok 2, Barangay Poblacion in Cauayan town.
The unidentified assailant reportedly barged into the house of Jimmy Calibjo, 53, and shot the victim twice. – Gilbert Bayoran, Ric Sapnu
