MANILA, Philippines — Six of the 17 regions nationwide exceeded the dengue epidemic threshold from July 17 to Aug. 13, the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday.

These are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region.

The DOH said Metro Manila had a sustained increase in cases in the past four weeks.

The country recorded 118,785 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Aug. 13.

The DOH said cases this year are 143 percent higher compared to the same period in 2021 at 48,867.

Most of the cases were reported in Central Luzon at 21,247; Central Visayas, 11,390, and Metro Manila, 11,064.

From July 17 to Aug. 13, the DOH recorded 19,816 cases.

Central Luzon logged the highest number of cases at 3,457; Metro Manila, 3,131, and the Cordilleras, 2,106.

A total of 400 deaths were reported – a case fatality rate of 0.3 percent.

DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire had earlier said dengue cases are seen to further increase during the rainy season.
