Cop nabbed in Cagayan drug bust
MANILA, Philippines — A policeman allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade and his alleged cohorts were arrested in a sting in Tuguegarao, Cagayan on Monday.
Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Cpl. Gomer Dacnas, 30; Jenwin Mencero, 30, and Joseph Ganab, 31, in Barangay Carig Sur at around 1:15 p.m., PDEA Cagayan Valley regional office head Joel Plaza said.
He said Dacnas and his companions yielded five grams of shabu valued at P34,000.
Four cell phones, drug paraphernalia and a Mitsubishi Strada were also reportedly recovered from the suspects.
Plaza said Dacnas was assigned with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), but was transferred to the National Capital Region Police Office personnel holding and accounting unit on May 25.
QCPD director Brig. Nicolas Torre III said Dacnas was placed on floating status after he went absent without leave.
In Cavite, 10 grams of shabu valued at P69,000 were seized in Dasmariñas City yesterday.
The illegal drugs were recovered from John Paul Faner, Charles Balza, Jessy Lomat and Joel Rodriguez.
In Zamboanga City, shabu with an estimated value of P1.3 million was seized on Sunday and Monday.
Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City police chief, said stings in Barangays Sta. Catalina and Sinunuc yielded 150 grams of shabu worth P1.02 million.
Dance instructor Rodel Atilano was reportedly found in possession of P340,000 worth of shabu in a sting in a motel room in Barangay Canelar.
