MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla has nominated two lawyers to be the next chief of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and Land Registration Authority (LRA).
At the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum yesterday, Remulla announced that he recommended to Malacañang Joel Viado to be the next immigration chief.
Viado is a law graduate from the University of the Philippines.
Rogelio Gevero Jr. is the acting BI officer-in-charge.
The justice secretary believes that the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 is already antiquated.
“I hope that our Immigration Law would be upgraded to suit the needs of the times,” Remulla said.
He also recommended Gerry Sirios, who took his law degree from the University of Perpetual Help, to head the LRA.
