Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The 92 families or 301 people who were evacuated in Marikina on Tuesday due to Severe Tropical Storm Florita returned to their homes as the Marikina River water level subsided yesterday.

The city public information office said the evacuees who sought shelter at the Nangka Elementary School and H. Bautista Elementary School returned home after the river’s water level dropped to 14.3 meters at around 6:20 a.m.

The local government raised a first alarm warning after the water level reached 15 meters on Tuesday afternoon.

The water level further rose to 15.5 meters at 10:30 p.m. but gradually went down as the rains stopped.

The river would reach critical level at 19 meters.

No areas were flooded in Marikina when the storm hit on Tuesday, the city government said.
