MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna yesterday inspected public schools in the city on the first day of the resumption of face-to-face classes and urged students to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Lacuna was accompanied by Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto in inspecting the Bacood Elementary School, Araullo High School, Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School and Jose Abad Santos High School.
Lacuna advised students to get COVID jabs to protect themselves from the virus.
“Please get vaccinated. This will give you additional protection now that you are having your classes face-to-face,” she said in Filipino.
Lacuna made the appeal after seeing children raise their hands when she asked who among them have not yet been vaccinated.
Lacuna, who is also a doctor, urged parents to have their children inoculated.
The mayor said she would deploy vaccination teams in schools to encourage more children to get vaccinated.
Lacuna had lamented the low turnout for pediatric and booster vaccination in the city.
