6,500 cops secure Calabarzon school opening

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — At least 6,500 police officers and 4,000 force multipliers were deployed in schools in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) to secure the first day of classes yesterday.

The officers were required to attend the flag-raising ceremonies in various schools within their jurisdictions, according to Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., Calabarzon police director.

Nartatez said the officers were ordered to ensure that the Balik-Eskwela Program would be peaceful, and students, teachers and school staff observe the minimum health standards.

The officers distributed leaflets containing tips on crime prevention and safety guidelines in going to and from school.

Public assistance desks were established near the schools as an added security measure.

School administrators thanked the Calabarzon police for helping them prepare the classrooms, from Brigada Eskwela until the opening of classes yesterday.
