MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy 500 personnel to secure students during the start of face-to-face classes today.

MPD spokesman Maj. Philipp Ines said yesterday the city’s police are ready to secure 250 public and private schools in the city.

Mayor Honey Lacuna on Friday held a conference with the commanders of the police community precincts.

Lacuna ordered the police to intensify visibility in schools and prioritize securing universities and colleges with night classes to prevent robberies.

She also instructed the MPD to set up a police desk in the city’s public schools.

Lacuna reminded students to comply with COVID protocols even during classes.
