CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Four persons died when a multipurpose vehicle rear-ended a cargo truck loaded with wood in Tayabas, Quezon before dawn yesterday.

Col. Joel Villanueva, Quezon police director, identified the fatalities as Enrique Rey Azores, 20, driver of a Toyota Innova, and his passengers Juan Carlos Alvarez, 22; Marga Elayne Ramirez, 18, and Mikaela Jeuel Solomon, 23.

Citing reports from personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office who responded to the accident, officer-on-case M/Sgt. Jomer Quinio said the fatalities were trapped inside their vehicle, which was pinned under the truck.

Quinio said the driver of the multipurpose vehicle could have been speeding and did not notice the truck.

A police report said the victims were on their way to Sariaya when the accident occurred in Barangay Calumpang at around 3 a.m. The truck driver is under police custody.
