Passenger jumps onto LRT tracks
MANILA, Philippines — A passenger jumped onto the tracks of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 at the Monumento station in Caloocan early yesterday morning, prompting the LRT-1 management to halt its operation.
Police said the man’s leg was severed because of the incident.
LRT-1 operator Light Rail Manila Management Corp. (LRMC) said the victim jumped when the train bound for Balintawak was approaching the Monumento station at around 4:45 a.m.
Police said the passenger was rushed to the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and later transferred to the Philippine General Hospital.
The man’s right leg was left on the rail tracks, but was retrieved shortly.
Probers said the man had attempted to commit suicide.
The incident prompted the LRMC to limit train trips between the Baclaran and Blumentritt stations.
The rail management restored regular train trips from Baclaran to Balintawak before 6 a.m.
