P46.28 million smuggled cigarettes seized at Subic port
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — A shipping container loaded with smuggled cigarettes worth P46.28 million has been seized at the port here.
Maritess Martin, port district collector, said 1,122 master cases of Marvels Filter cigarettes, which were declared as ”fabrics,” were consigned to Proline Logistics Philippines Inc.
The consignee was not registered with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority as an importer of cigarettes and tobacco products. It was also not included in the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s list of registered importers of cigarette brands.
In Zamboanga City, four persons were arrested yesterday for transporting smuggled cigarettes worth P1.57 million.
Ninety-four reams of 43 master cases of the cigarettes were found on a motorized boat, locally known as junkong, in the waters of Barangay Manalipa, Zamboanga peninsula police spokesperson Maj. Shellamie Chang said in a report.
She said the boat came from Jolo and was headed to Ipil when intercepted by police and Bureau of Customs personnel.
