Taguig shrine declared a ‘minor basilica’
MANILA, Philippines — The Vatican has declared the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig City as a “minor basilica,” making it the first minor basilica under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Diocese of Pasig.
“The Holy See approved our request for a decree granting the title of minor basilica to the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne,” Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara said during his homily for the fiesta mass yesterday.
A minor basilica title is given to Catholic churches to denote a particular importance in liturgical and pastoral life and a close bond with the pope.
In his homily, Vergara said that he has two requests: to catechize the whole community as to the significance and importance of the title of minor basilica and to involve everyone in the “preparation exercise, synodality among and between organizations, ministries and even local government units.”
He said that no one should be left behind in the solemn proclamation of the minor basilica.
