MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) is mobilizing a rehabilitation plan to assist farmers affected by flash floods in Banaue earlier this month.
The DA-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said the rehabilitation plan worth P4.4 million would focus on production support services to cater to the procurement of vegetable seeds, livestock and poultry with supplements, high-density polyethylene hose and soil ameliorants.
The plan was based on the post-damage needs assessment conducted by the provincial emergency operation center and task force.
Continuous rains due to the southwest monsoon or habagat caused flash floods and mudslides in six barangays in Banaue last July 7.
Damage to agriculture amounted to P10.9 million and affected 756 farmers, many of them growing rice and high-value crops as well as livestock and poultry.
DA-CAR regional executive director Cameron Odsey assured the public that vegetable production in the region remains stable despite the flooding.
