San Juan to enforce no-contact apprehension scheme in August

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — State-of-the-art cameras equipped with artificial intelligence will be enforcing the no-contact apprehension policy in San Juan City beginning next month, Mayor Francis Zamora announced yesterday.

Zamora said they would launch the remote traffic violation monitoring system as part of the local government’s plan to boost traffic order and response.

“We’re setting up closed-circuit television cameras along major roads and intersections in the city. These CCTV cameras will capture traffic violators even if there are no enforcers on site,” he said.

The city government recently signed a contract with a private firm for the installation of CCTVs, which makes use of artificial intelligence that has learned algorithms that identify pre-selected violations.
