MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested after he stabbed to death his 23-year-old girlfriend in a fit of jealousy in Quezon City on Wednesday.
Police said Ceranton Cardenas, of Caloocan City, was apprehended in a follow-up operation in Cavite where he went into hiding after killing Lory Joy Laman, an accounting staff.
The incident occurred in front of an engine repair shop along Quirino Highway in Barangay Kaligayahan at around 6:30 a.m., according to probers.
A witness told investigators the couple was quarreling along the road when Cardenas pulled out a knife from his waist.
Police said the suspect stabbed Laman repeatedly before fleeing on foot.
Despite her injuries, Laman managed to seek help from a security guard of their company, who brought her to a hospital.
Doctors tried to save Laman but she died after several hours.
Prior to the killing, police said Laman had filed a complaint against Cardenas in the barangay for physical abuse, in violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.
In an interview on Teleradyo, Cardenas said he killed his girlfriend out of jealousy, claiming the victim was having an affair with another man.
