MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development has warned the public against a text phishing scam involving a fake DSWD employee, who promises the issuance of unclaimed ayuda or cash aid under the government’s Social Amelioration Program.
The DSWD issued the warning after a concerned citizen complained that an employee of the agency has been getting people’s vital information, specifically their bank accounts, in exchange for the release of cash assistance.
The DSWD urged the public to refrain from giving their personal information to unknown individuals through text.
The agency said it would not ask for such information, pursuant to the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
