Negros Occidental town mayor resigns
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Citing ”unforeseen health reasons,” the mayor of Pulupandan town in Negros Occidental has resigned from his post.
In a letter to Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday, Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco said he decided to resign as his condition may affect his capacity to carry out his responsibilities as a local chief executive.
Lacson said he accepted Suatengco’s resignation, which is effectively immediately.
A copy of the resignation letter was sent to the office of Roselyn Quintana, provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Suatengco substituted for his father Antonio, who died on Feb. 27, while running unopposed as mayor of Pulupandan.
Suatengco was replaced by his cousin, Vice Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña, who took his oath of office yesterday.
Councilor Anthony Gerard Suatengco assumed the post of vice mayor.
