MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday urged motorists to take alternate routes during the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos on July 25.
In anticipation of traffic jams along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, the MMDA advised motorists coming from Elliptical Road to take North Avenue then turn right to Mindanao Avenue.
Motorists should turn right to Sauyo Road or take Quirino Highway, then on to Commonwealth Avenue to reach their point of destination.
Southbound vehicles coming from Commonwealth Avenue should take Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, then left to Mindanao Avenue and left again to North Avenue to their point of destination.
Those coming from C-5 Road may turn left to Magiting street, right to Maginhawa street, left to Mayaman street, then to Kalayaan Avenue.
Trucks coming from C-5 along Katipunan Avenue should take the Luzon flyover then left to Congressional Avenue.
MMDA officer-in-charge Baltazar Melgar said 1,133 personnel from the Traffic Discipline Office, Road Emergency Group, Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, Flood Control and Metrobase would be deployed along Commonwealth Avenue during the SONA.
A zipper lane on the southbound portion of Commonwealth Avenue will be implemented to give way to government vehicles and guests going to the Batasang Pambansa complex.
The MMDA Task Force Special Operations and Anti-Colorum Unit, in coordination with the Quezon City government, will intensify clearing operations to remove road obstructions ahead of the SONA.
