Golden Triangle eyed in P1.87 billion smuggled drugs
MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese-run drug ring Golden Triangle is believed to be behind the large amounts of shabu confiscated in recent anti-narcotics operations, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
Police said around 275 kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P1.87 billion were recovered in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, Quezon City and Dasmariñas City in Cavite.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said based on the packaging of the drugs, the drug ring could be behind the smuggling of shabu.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the conviction for drug importation of a Malaysian, who was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for alleged possession of 5,918 grams of shabu in 2010.
In a decision uploaded on the SC website on Monday, the high court denied the appeal of Yap Kean Hock to dismiss the case for lack of merit.
The SC upheld the decision of a Pasay court that found him guilty of drug trafficking.
