Man held for selling GCash accounts

MANILA, Philippines — A man accused of selling Globe SIM cards with GCash accounts was apprehended in Pasig City on Tuesday, the police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) reported yesterday.

Darieuss Renzo Salazar, 26, was arrested at a supermarket along Caruncho Avenue in Barangay Palatiw at around 3:30 p.m.

Salazar allegedly yielded 93 SIM cards with GCash or e-wallet accounts.

ACG director Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding said the suspect reportedly offered GCash accounts to a police officer online in exchange for P34,410 or P370 for each account.

The suspect is being held on charges of violating Republic Act 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation Act in relation to RA 10175, otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Police reminded the public to secure their GCash accounts.

“Secure your SIM and identification cards because these are being used by unscrupulous individuals to create e-wallet accounts, which they sell online to commit cybercrime,” Masauding said.
